In the late 1800s, Ashmore’s land was owned by pioneering families such as the Muirs and the Smiths. The suburb is named after the Hicks family’s 300-acre farming property, located near Benowa, which was named after Athol Hicks, the grandson of the original landowner. Ashmore became a residential area in the early 1970s after investor Jim Donellon developed the area, giving rise to Ashmore Village as a modern housing estate. Developments such as Bellevue Park, Timber Tops, Paradise River, and Paradise Heights followed. Ashmore officially became a suburb in 1982 and has since experienced steady growth.
Ashmore is home to a range of educational institutions, from primary schools to tertiary education. Notable schools in the area include The Southport School (TSS), St Hilda’s School, and Griffith University. For leisure, the suburb is close to renowned golf courses like the Southport Golf Club and Royal Pines Resort, offering ample opportunities for outdoor activities and recreation. Ashmore’s vibrant community, combined with its convenient location and wealth of amenities, makes it an ideal place for families and individuals of all ages.
