A riverfront Gold Coast mansion that has hosted captains of industry, celebrates galore and political figures might soon reclaim its title as one of the expensive luxury homes in Queensland.
The gigantic residence of 2300sqm sits on a 6500sqm riverfront parcel in the exclusive enclave of Sorrento and has been placed on the market by owners Yi Zhao and Guanghan Chen through Lucy Cole and John Cole of Lucy Cole Prestige Properties.
The palatial seven-bedroom home, which was built in the 1980s by finance tycoon Sir Justin Hickey and his wife, Lady (Barbara) Hickey, last changed hands in 2014 for $7.2 mllion when it was also sold through Lucy Cole.
Previous owners have included the late transport tycoon Doug Kefford, Cameron Davis, the founder of the failed developer Samtay Group, and Indonesian industrialist Alimin Soenario.
Over the years the home has reportedly had a star-studded line-up of visitors, including Frank Sinatra, the Rolling Stones, the King of Tonga, the Sultan of Brunei, Whitney Houston and Dr Henry Kissinger.
Ms Cole said Bartinon was “without doubt” one of the Queensland’s most amazing homes.
“Bartinon is a riverfront mansion that sits on one of the rarest remaining blocks with 90m of direct river frontage in one of the best streets in the city,’’ she said.
“The size and the quality of the home is simply incredible and timeless. The two-storey home has a porte cochere entry, seven bedrooms that are all ensuited and a range of different entertainment options including a ballroom, all-weather tennis court, resort pool and indoor leasure centre including spa, sauna and gym area.” Ms Cole said the home’s design was inspired by mansions in The Caribbean.
The home has two sprawling levels of executive living set amongst manicured grounds and amenities including a large pontoon with full serviecs and an enclosed boat shed. This is certainly one of the last remaining centraly located large estates that will be the jewel in any property portfolio.
